There have been a couple threads mentioning that some of the folks on here are interested in organizing a trip down to Galveston to help out.

If you are interested in helping, and have equipment, please log your interest and how you can help:

Me, BaylorBabe, power tools, wet/dry vac, air matress
We can get there the evening of the 19th and head back to Dallas on the 21st, or if it has to wait another week leave on the 26th and come back on the 28th.

I have a feeling we will need Senior EXecutive Management (SEX Man) to provide appropriate hydration and dehydration to all workers. In addition, we will need a co-ordinated effort on the proper number of clean shirt changes, should any of us get mustard spilled during clean up.

I don't have any equipment, but I could lend a helping hand. I could go down as early as next Thursday evening if needed and could help out through Sunday.

UAark and Lido said they'd be happy to help too.

Obviously we won't know this for a while but my dad has some tools and stuff I'm sure we could borrow - let us know what kind of things we're looking for when the time gets closer.

VB, PowerBuilder, or SQL? I could maybe remember some BASIC and COBOL if really needed.

I am there.

If we have an estimate for what we will need, I can get just about any power tool needed. I just so happen to be meeting my dad and picking up a 16' trailer, and I can be there Tuesday if I need to be.

Y'all let me know.

After a night of drinking, I'm guessing some Java will be needed.

For all those NOT in the hurricane zone:
If you are out and about this weekend and in the next week please start thinking of items our Gulf friends will need when they go back home. Work gloves, dust masks, LOTS of cleaning supplies, trash bags, first aid supplies, cases of water (beer)...you get the idea. Obviously there will be a run of items like this in the Houston area, so if you are able to pick it up in SA, Austin, Dallas, or anywhere else I think it would be a good idea.
BC/Wacoso--is there anything specific you can think of that would will need when you head back down that would probably be out of stock?

I'm there, and can probably commandere an Expedition, a shop vac and tools.

That's sweet of you, FIJI. I can't think of anything right now (except the fact that we may be screwed on our insurance policy--I was told last year that FEMA didn't issue renters flood policies (no major carrier writes flood policies down here anymore so you have to go through FEMA), so we don't have one. I just found out that they do. We have windstorm, but not flood...so...pray our roof comes off.) If I think of some things, I'll let you know. Probably won't have a good idea until we get back and see what's going on. Maybe headache medicine?

The United Methodist Committee on Relief has a "flood bucket," usually asking church members to put one together- this what is included:
These supplies enable people to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood or hurricane. For flood buckets only, if the requested sized item is not available, go down to the next available size. If nothing is available in the requested or smaller size, put masking tape on the outside of the bucket saying, "This bucket contains no _________."

5-gallon bucket with resealable lid
Bleach (two 1-quart or one 82 oz. bottle. Do not include bleach of you are shipping the bucket through the US Postal Service, UPS or FedEx)
5 scouring pads
7 Sponges
1 scrub brush
18 cleaning towels (reusable wipes)
Liquid laundry detergent (two 25 oz. or one 50 oz. bottle)
1 household cleaner, 12-16 oz. bottle
Disinfectant dish soap, 16-28 oz. bottle
50 clothes pins
Clothes line (two 50 ft. or one 100 ft.)
5 dust masks
2 pair latex gloves
1 pair work gloves
24-bag roll of heavy-duty trash bags, 33-45 gallon (remove roll from box before placing in bucket)
1 Insect repellant spray, 6-14 oz. can (If aerosol, cans must have protective caps. See special requirements below.*)
1 Air freshener, 8 or 9 oz. can (If aerosol, cans must have protective caps. See special requirements below.*)
*Special requirements: Put all items in the plastic bucket and seal lid. Please ensure that all cleansing agents are liquids (not powder) and in plastic bottles.

Value: $45 per bucket.

I can load up a shop vac, cordless tools, chainsaw, and more.

Just keep us posted.

The wife and I always go to Port A every October. So we could provide some help then (after Oct 15th).

I have lots of power tools, can get a generator. I also have extensive construction knowledge. Let us know what is needed when you finally get there and I think between the group we can make just about anything happen. That's not an exagerration.

It looks like we will not be able to get in for 2-4 weeks. As I said on another thread, Michael told us today that there is 4 feet of water in our house. Everything basically is gone. There's not going to be anything to rebuild because we don't own the place and after 4 weeks, if it takes that long, it's going to be really hard to salvage anything.

I have registered us on FEMA but it looks like FEMA doesn't apply to renters or personal property.

I hate to say this because it almost sounds tacky, but the best thing may be to get us things like Target gift cards or Visa gift cards or someplace even like Rooms to Go (have been looking online and saw some affordable decent room packages there)... things like that because we are going to have to restock and refurnish an entire house with likely very little help from insurance or the government. That's the assistance that will help us more than clean up assistance, if anyone is interested in that (although I know it's not as much fun as using a chain saw.)
