haha, that was awful. San Diego is the best 0-2 team in the league though. Sucks that their season has started this way.

Refs gave them 14pts (15 actually) today. 2nd play for the Chargers was a catch by Chambers and Bailey took it away when they were both on the ground and they gave the ball to Denver. Led to a TD. Then the horrible missed call on the "incomplete pass" at the end.

Not a good day. Gonna have to fire up the Baylor game to get me in a somewhat decent mood.

Our defense didn't do us any favors though. Ted Cottrell is HORRIBLE. On the Broncos last TD he had Olshansky, a D lineman, dropping into coverage. You give up 39 and you deserve to lose.

Wow... that fumble was ridiculous. Luckily the referee was super buff, so he was not going to take any flack from San Diego.

Ed Hochuli is usually the best ref in the league...not today though

While I despise that call and always have it is the same call that led to a Patriots superbowl and it is consistent.

I also saw the replay on a 65" HD TD of the last catch, sure didnt look like a catch to me. Shame because I really like San Diego and really dont like Denver.

Not the same call as the NE/Oakland "tuck rule" game. Cutler dropped the ball before his hand started forward. The tuck rule only applies after the arm has gone forward, but the ball has not been secured with two hands.

It is the rule that say if their hand is going forward it is a pass. I dont like that rule but the second the ball came out I figured they were going to say he was going forward. I think it allows too much leverage. QBs always follow through so the hand almost always looks like it is going forward. I think that should be ruled a fumble unless the ball is in his hand the the nose of the ball is pointing towards the turf, as in OBVIOUSLY going forward.

The catch was a catch, I meant I dont think he came down in bounds.

They ended up ruling it a fumble but a whistle blew it dead. The only guy near it picked it up and I never heard a whistle. Total nuts and bolt job by the refs.

the whistle was blown, no question. From the right angle you can see the ref with the whistle in his mouth making the incomplete call

Someone needs to photoshop that ref wearing Bronco's gear.

This is the part where I should have not commented because I had the sound off, didnt realize they had blown the whistle.

The problem I'm having is that I feel it's irrelevent whether or not the arm was going forward. The ball went backwards so, at a minimum, it should have been ruled a lateral which, once it hit the ground, is a live ball.

The officials merely handed the victory to the Bronchos. And "my bad" just doesn't cut it.

Good point TG. It should be a lateral.

I just read an article about how Ed has been getting tons of hate mail, and has been responding to hundreds of them saying he is incredibly sorry. He said he failed miserably as a ref and is torn up about the whole thing. It is nice to see a ref take responsibility for something like that.

If the chargers end up making the playoffs with ease, this will all be forgotten, if they miss it by one game, they should look to the Carolina game in week 1.

I hate that he's getting hate mail about this. He made a mistake. Nothing is going to change it now. If it were a rookie ref there would be a little more cause for concern, but his track record is pretty stellar and he's a fair ref. He blew the call. He knows it. He apologized. There's nothing else he can do.

Yeah, we're 0-2, but we're still going to win the division and make the playoffs. The main thing I'm worried about is our horrible defense play-calling. You give up 39 points and you don't deserve to blame the refs for anything.

Well that is interesting. On my pic I took a graphic from a google search and added the helmet and broncos logos. Someone did the same thing with a better head but left off the logos. Funny stuff.

I, too, hate the fact that he's getting hate mail. But how many points your team gives up is irrelevent as long as your teams scores more.

The point is that, had he made the proper call, the Chargers merely take a knee and win the game. Having had this done to my alma mater a couple of years ago, I understand the frustration of the Charger fans.

Regardless, it is what it is and not what we think it should be. There's nothing that can be done about it now except to continue to stew about it which, from experience, doesn't make you feel better. Time does ease the pain.

I would have been a lot more fun to watch the Broncos try to punch it in the endzone, have the ball stripped and run back for a touchdown by San Diego as time expired... oh wait, I've already seen that.

It looks like the Chargers are not as good as we expected them to be. I cannot believe they lost to the Dolphins. While I don't think Miami is as bad as last year, they still are in a rebuilding stage. How could that happen?

Someone in football used to say that you are exactly what your record shows you to be, not sure it is 100% true in week 2 but on the whole it isnt far from it.
