His talent was never an issue. The question was his character. Once John Wall changed, he rose to the top of his class, Scout.com says.

is this guy actually coming? we've had at least a half dozen big time recruits that are either comitted or sure things to come to Baylor only to have them wind up somewhere else.

this is why i can't get interested in following recruiting. maybe they come, maybe they dont and if they do its 3 years before you hear from them

He has an official visit scheduled with us. Be patient.

I'd feel a little better if we had someone other than Dwon in Wall's posse backing us up. Seems like too much of his entourage is pimping Memphis while his mom wants him at NC State.

He will spend plenty of time in Memphis during his professional career. The issue here is that John Wall's posse thinks that Beale Street will be more fun than Scruffy Murphy's in terms of the one year they are going to follow him through his college year.

In my unbiased opinion, and through what I have heard from Wall interviews to this point, I think he would like to play at a good school in a small town, to limit the distractions in his one year. If that opinion is correct, I could see it coming down to OSU, BU and NC State. Stillwater, Waco, and Raleigh are all small enough towns that he can focus on basketball. Remember, his one year in school is essentially a 40 game tryout to determine draft position. The extra million in signing bonus alone makes it worth it to skip Beale Street for a year.

Also, looking at it another way... if I were to instill any knowledge in a 18 year old kid (which I understand would never actually happen)... you have two choices here. You can be a number (Kansas, NC, Duke), you could be fairly well recognized at the school (Memphis, Louisville, Kentucky), or you could absolutely positively be THE MAN that people talk about for years (Baylor). If you had any sort of ego or swagger about yourself, I would want to be known as the guy who brought a National Championship to a school. Why be part of a storied franchise when you could be the guy who built the story?
