May not be the right place, but I've been praying and wondering if anyone knows how Wacoso and BC and the little one came though the devestation of IKE? Wondering about their home and business??

I've had them on my mind alot and been worried as I've seen pictures on the news.

they had thought they lost everything, but apparently it wasn't as bad as they thought

Frank,

We heard there was little damage, then someone on the island told us we had 4 feet of water in the house, then a friend went in the house today and we had 3-4 inches of water. He pulled the carpet and padding out and emptied our freezers for us.

The business took a pretty big hit from the water but is still standing. The steps to get up to our place are gone. No idea on the damages inside or to the structure. I don't think we can get back to see it for at least a week. I do know that I'll be down there bright and early on that day. I also know it will stink due to food and ice cream in the freezer. Luckily I have tons of bleach there and will be getting a big old pressure washer.

Wacoso, I have a pretty nice 6.0 HP Honda pressure washer. If you want to swing through SA, it's yours indefinitely.

Since we all were resigned to believe total devastation, this is definitely great news.

BC and Wacoso, I just heard on the radio that the mayor of Galveston has initiated a look and leave policy where you can go in and look at your property and get anything you need and then leave by 6pm.

Look and Leave has now been put off. BC went in today and was quite happy with our house. She was unable to get down to our store due to debris. I have pictures of the location and there is a ship container blocking one entrance and about 100 yards of debris blocking the others. Building is standing and ac units are gone. Not sure what else I can make out.

I did make it on the Island today. The devastation makes you want to cry. I had tears in my eyes at several points.

The water line outside our house is over 3 feet, yet, I can find almost NO damage on anything inside our house. A couple of cheap bookcases that were particle board had some warping at the bottom and two shelves of books (cookbooks and college textbooks) on the bottom of our built in book case in the living room are pretty much ruined, but that's it. I looked for water damage on other things and just couldn't find it. Some things like the vacuum, washer/dryer, refrigerator, carpet steamer, etc. may not work when we're able to plug them in. I don't know. I can only chalk all this up to God really looked out for us. There is no explanation for a 3 ft waterline and half a foot of debris in the back yard, but virtually no damage inside.

Unfortunately, I have heard of 4 friends who have lost everything today. Just makes me so sad and so angry about it all.

I am so sorry that you guys have to deal with this. Your emotions are normal and I wish there was something more we could do to help.

I'm real happy to hear from Brian and Kristen. A friend told me this morning there were hundreds of casualties in Galveston, but they haven't released it to the press yet. I guess they're trying to identify the bodies and inform next of kin.

It's amazing the destruction Ike did. We're still up here in Tyler, but will probably return home tomorrow.

Thank you Buddy. I've feared that lives lost was much more than reported and the CB/BP area were sure to have deaths not mentioned yet. I do know they were have difficulty finding next of kin in that area which means deaths have occurred, but no names released until notification.

I heard in the news this morning something around 45 ? Very tragic. I didn't expect that many.

Brian... do you know if they required the citizens to permanent marker their arms with their social security numbers, as once recommended?

When I heard that 40% of the city was remaining behind I thought it might be 1000. Seriously. We were lucky this time.

Latest count is 50 related deaths in 11 different states. Obviously every death is tragic, but that is truly remarkable considering the size and force of that storm.

I believe they told them to, but how do you enforce it? I'm not sure you could hold someone down and make them do it.

The reports of a lady being swept out to sea are real and if I were a betting man I'd say we'll see some people float up elsewhere. I pray for the beach patrol, those families, and other law enforcement that will come across those that were taken to sea.

With the conditions for those that remain on the island instead of leaving, why I don't know, we'll see more deaths. The disease will continue, the mold will grow, the small things will kill more.

And yet there will be many that have perished. Whatever the number it is too high. My heart really is breaking for those on the coast and there is little if anything that we can do to help but ask for God's grace and love to pervade in a time of disaster.

And there is NO healthcare for these folks. UTMB has less capacity than the Minute Clinic inside your local HEB. Not kidding. If someone injures themselves during cleanup or has a heart attack or something similar, they are toast.

I read that the hospital lost its generators and had shut down all together.

Hell, there's a lion locked up in a Baptist church and a tiger roaming loose.

Those folks need to get out.
