It's that time again. The NBA has kicked off its preseason games and there is plenty of news. The best thing I like about the NBA kicking off is that the NCAA follows fairly quickly. I do love the NBA though.

Here we go.....2 minutes on the clock please....

1:58 The Dallas Mavericks have hired Paul Westphal as their new executive vice president of basketball operations on Monday. Westphal, who was a Dallas assistant coach last season with Avery Johnson, will assist general manager Donnie Nelson and work in scouting. This is a great hire (retain) for the Mavericks. about the only bright spot on the coaching staff last year was Westphal who was constantly overruled by ousted Avery Johnson. Westphal brings tons of experience to the Mavs front office and is a professional executive.

1:41 Former Maverick and current Washington Wizard Antawn (pronounced antWan) Jamison left tonights game against the Mavericks after straining his right knee. His knee buckled badly like you see with ACL tears, but league sources are stating that he has a right knee sprain. An MRI is scheduled for the morning. Best wishes to Antawn.

1:29 The Mavericks beat the Wizards tonight 108-82 behind 17 points from both Dirk and Brandon Bass. The crowd rightfully had mixed reactions for Josh Howard who recently said he didn't respect the national anthem. The guy is a mental midget and deserved a more harsh response imho. I wish the Mavs would trade him.

1:07 Tonight was brand new head coach Rick Carlisle's first game as a Maverick.

0:59 Phil Jackson was noticeably absent from the Lakers 99-90 loss against the Jazz last night due to what sources are calling lower leg anomalies and swelling. Jackson, perhaps my least favorite NBA coach was probably out selling chicken.

0:49 The other LA team (Clippers) made some news of their own tonight as they have Elgin Baylor as vice president of basketball operations. Perhaps the single person in that entire franchise who understands basketball, Baylor has held the team together through years of owner Donald Sterling's mismanagement and miserly ways. The team issued a release stating that Baylor resigned, however Baylor himself called that "absurd". Baylor is fired by Sterling and will be replaced by Mike Dunleavy who couldn't coach himself out of a paper sack, much less lead an NBA franchise as its executive administrator. The writing has been on the wall since Dunleavy's hire. Cowardly move by a crap franchise.

0:45 Rumors are beginning to flow around league circles that Commish David Stern might be under fire behind the scenes. League owners are unhappy of his handling of negotiations on the last collective bargaining agreement. The guy is an ***.

0:38 There is no truth to the rumors that Mark Cuban will sign himself to be the Mavericks new backup to Dirk Nowitzki.

0:31 A woman has been charged with stalking Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton. Stacy Elizabeth Beshear of El Segundo was arrested Sept. 18 after she pulled up to his car and pretended to fire gunshots at him with her hand, police Sgt. Steve Tobias said. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that she was probably trying to get the name of Luke's father's (Bill Walton) pot dealer.

0:27 This just in....Charles Barkley is still orca quality FAAAAAAAAAAT.

0:21 League sources state that the Orlando Magic have picked up their $2.8 million option on guard J.J. Redick for next season. Many see this as a precursor to a trade for the disgruntled star. He still has a decent career ahead of him so there should be solid interest.

0:18 Other scores this week in NBA preseason:
Toronto 104, Cleveland 84
Houston 96, Memphis 93 (Ron Artest's debut in Houston)
Atlanta 118, Orlando 101
Minnesota 117, Milwaukee 79

0:14 Wednesday's lineup is large. If you like NBA hoops you should be able to enjoy a game somewhere. Here is the lineup.

New Orleans at Indiana
Charlotte at Orlando
Boston at Philadelphia
NY Knicks at Toronto
Milwaukee at Detroit
Washington at Memphis
Oklahoma City at Minnesota
Atlanta at Phoenix
Golden State at Portland

0:07 The San Antonio Spurs have announced a new advertising campaign. The first 5000 fans to attend a preseason game will get the following full sized collector poster.

0:00 That's all for now....enjoy the season and may your shot be true, unless you are a San Antonio Spur and in that case may it clang. :)

I used to be a huge Lakers fan until they traded Shaq over that whiner Kobe. Now I am just huge.

Grew up on the Mavs and Spurs and still like them both. I made the post with a memory of Case in mind. I can see by your thin skin response (and ignoring the fact that you focused on the Spurs jab and not the mention of 20 NBA franchises and several NBA personalities) that you are a Mav hatin' Spurs apologist. ;)

I make plenty of Mavs jabs too. Just ask SoTex.

All in fun. That's just all the NBA news there is this week.

Mavs fans have made me hate that team more than the actual team itself.

Yes, I do love the Spurs, you should know this by now.

I used to like the Mavs until they recruited the most annoying whiny fans in the country.

Grew up in Houston, so I'm a Rockets fan, but I pull for all the Texas teams when they aren't playing each other...

That's kind of the way I am as well. I never understood why some Texans refuse to pull for the other Texas teams (assuming they have a favorite one).

My dad took me to Dallas Chaparrals games in the 70's. They moved to San Antonio some time in the middle 70's and became the Gunslingers and then the Spurs. We moved to Corpus soonafter and the Spurs held pre-season games in Corpus so the whole city loved them. The Mavericks were created in 1979 and began play in 1980. I've been a fan of both teams ever since. Houston not as much but I never really connected with them. I'd say they are a distant third, but if they aren't playing the Mavs or Spurs I pull for them.

I guess I have levitated towards the Mavs over the years having lived in Waco so long and seeing more of their games. Mavs fans can be whiny, but Spurs fans hold their own in that department. God forbid we could expect class when the teams play each other. Talk about a whine fest.

Anyhow, go Texas teams.

Bigshot...I've taken several shots at the Mavs over the years....here is a gif I made back when the Mavs made an early exit years ago to Golden State. It got posted all over Spursreport.com and made its way out from there.

Also, I forget why I made this one, but it was a shot at Cuban....

Here is another one...when the Mavs announced they had a huge free agent signing and called a press conference, we all got excited only to find out that they have signed Devean George. For the rest of the year I used this one whenever I could.

By George I think He's Got it.

Here is Dirk watching Kermit the Frog rolling a fat one on the internet. I forget why i made this one.

I made this one after Josh Howard got into trouble and someone called the Mavs thugs or something.

Anyways...I hit every team when the mood strokes me as you can see. I love photoshop.

Spurs fans don't hate the Mavs, we hate the Mavs fans because they have huge penis envy and constantly put down our team. That and Cuban always saying derogatory remarks about our city trying to boost a rivalry.

Personally, I think the Rockets will be the class of the state this year.

I don't believe the Spurs will challenge for the NBA title this year. They'll make the playoffs and probably advance to the second round - maybe the third round. Just a gut feeling.

But, whatever they do, the Spurs will still outperform the Mavs. Why? Because the space time continuum dictates it so, that's why. The Mavs are simply destined to suck.:D Just the way it is.
