our Equestrian team crushed A&M 15-5 in a home match today.

Way to go ladies!

we are also ahead of A&M in the volleyball standings as well. I like being ahead of them! :)

I thought A&M and Georgia were tied at #2 and we were #4...not that I actually follow equestrian, just read the first two sentences of an article before I got bored with it.

Unless a horse fell on a rider I dont think it is possible to "crush" an opponent in horsie riding. The simple fact that this is a sport tells you everything you need to know about the NCAA.

Competitive paint watching is also in the works for the ladies so we can keep the Title IX folks happy.

I know one of the riders and after hearing what all they have to do I have a new appreciation for Equestrian. nein's Title IX point however is a fair one.

I don't care if we beat A&M is competitive paint drying, I just like beating A&M, period. In any sport, any time. As long as they are behind us in the standings, I don't care.

I have to be honest, no amount of ANYTHING is going to convince me that Equestrian is a sport so there is no point in trying. It just isnt a sport. It's horse riding. I really like hot dogs but competitive eating isnt a sport either.

I agree with Wants I love beating A&M at basically anything but Title IX is a joke and the fact that you can win an NCAA championship in horse riding is a complete and total joke. This coming from a guy who loves women's basketball and even softball and soccer.

Do you consider auto racing a sport? It's just car riding.

Do you consider auto racing a sport? It's just car riding.
You lose about 10lbs during the average race and 20 laps at 180+ is mentally exhausting, nevermind 200 or 500 laps. Auto racing is sport. When taking your hands off of the wheel for a split second can mean the difference between life and death I am going to give auto racing a nod way, way further up the list than horse riding. I assure you that if you are "riding" you are going to end up hurt in a race car.

I have done both, horse riding and auto racing and I assure you that there is a massive, massive, MASSIVE difference between the two. Not to say one is not "harder" than the other. I could even live if you want to make the argument that auto racing is not sport.

For the record I am vehemently against any "sport" where the outcome cannot be measured. Horse racing > Dressage (for example). I feel the same about gymnastics, diving, or any other subjective scoring system.

At the end of the day, no matter how you want to argue it, were it not for Title IX we wouldnt be having this discussion at all. We dont have a men's soccer team or a men's rugby team but we HAVE to add things like Equestrian.

When the people in charge are willing to admit that there is NO womens' sport that you can hand out as many scholarships as football, then take the steps to exempt the 100 football scholarships, THEN work from a real equal footing in scholarship numbers then I might be willing to discuss further whether Equestrian is a sport. Until then we ALL know what it is, a Title IX boondoggle.

While we are on the topic, the NCAA needs to make sure that in order to win a NC there are more than a handful of competing schools, a list, for example:
Men's Fencing - 18 D1
Men's Gymnastics - 16 D1
Men's Rifle - 2 D1
Men's Skiing - 13 D1
Men's Volleyball - 22 D1
Men's Water Polo - 22 D1
Women's Archery - 1 D1
Women's Bowling - 30 D1
Women's Equestrian - 18 D1 (yay, we are always top 25!!!)
Women's Fencing - 23 D1
Women's Rifle - 8 D1
Women's Rugby - 1 D1
Women's Skiing - 14 D1
Women's Squash - 9 D1 (all the Ivys plus GWU)
Women's Synchronized Swimming - 4 D1

Simply put, if you cant field at least 50 D1 teams there shouldnt be a NC for it, if you cant field 25 D1 teams it is a club sport or a hobby. The NCAA awards something like 100+ NCs each year, look at that list and tell me you think 2 schools should be competing for a NC.

I get it, I just hate it.

So if we form a Women's Archery team we have a 50/50 chance of a national championship? Huzaaa!! Let's do it!

A few points...

#1 I was the head women's rugby coach at Baylor University in 1998-1999. My career record officially stands at 4-0.

#2 Ask Christopher Reeves if you hold your life in your hands while riding a horse.

#3 Nascar is not a sport, it is a hobby. Any athlete will tell you that if you can not turn right, you will never get anywhere in life.

#4 I agree, less than 50 teams, no NC.

We'd be disqualified. Two of our "flag girls" are guys.

One is back from last year and "he" looks to be 6'2" and 200 lbs. "He" wears a different uniform than the girls. Why do you think "he" is a she?

umm you must not have seen the same girls i saw on the BU women's rugby team. They were bigger than me and quite frankly were scarry looking. I never saw a pretty female rugby player.
