I went to the release party for the Jamie Newburg Report last night in Arlington. For the uninformed, the Newburg Report is an in-depth analysis of the Texas Ranger farm system, from top to bottom. Every player is analyzed. For total baseball dorks like myself, its required reading.

He was there along with Michael Young, Jeff Zimmerman, Taylor Teagarden, Chris Davis and a minor league pitcher (can't remember his name). If you bought the book, they would all autograph the book and one additional item. They were very cordial and signed for almost 3 hours. My son had to work at the last minute so I went to get him some autographs. (He loves Michael Young)

After it was over the players hung out for a while and chatted it up with the folks there. So I asked Taylor Teagarden, "who was the toughest Baylor pitcher you faced?" Without hesitation he said, "Zane Carlson." "And Thomas White was pretty good too."

I was struck by how instant his response was. Too bad Zane didn't make it in the bigs. I was a fan of his when he played for Highland Park HS and for the Bears. Good ballplayer.

Link to his marriage announcement if anyone is curious.

Chief's, Zane used to do coaching/instruction as a personal trainer here in waco a few years ago. It's been awhile obviously, but I'm glad to hear he's married and hopefully will be very happy in Dallas in whatever he's doing.

Thanks for the update. You will make it to some of the baseball games this year, right?

Not too many. Likely none prior to April 15th.

I do listen to the games online when I can.

My son will be playing varsity for Berkner HS this year, so any free time will be at his games.
