The Baylor soccer team opens the 2008 season when the Bears host SMU in an exhibition match at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at Betty Lou Mays Field.

"I am very excited about seeing where we are at as a team," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We have been working very hard and I think we are ready to play against someone other than ourselves."

Baylor returns five starters and 16 letterwinners from a team that went 7-10-2 and finished 10th in the Big 12 in 2007, while a crop of 13 newcomers will see their first action in a Bears uniform.

Sophomore Lotto Smith returns as the Bears leading scorer, after notching five in her freshman campaign. Baylor will also lean heavily on the leadership of seniors Carolyn Lynch, Andi ***an, Elena Sutherland and Amanda McGrath.

SMU finished last season with a record of 9-7-1, including a 4-5 record in Conference USA matches. The Mustangs are led by second-year head coach Brent Erwin.

Baylor will open the 2008 regular season on the road when the Bears travel to UTEP on Friday, Aug. 22, at 7 p.m.

Baylor is very fortunate to have been able to sign Coach Jobson. You can rest assured that this team will not be outworked.

The Bears fell 1-0 in a hotly contested matchup to a good SMU program. I don't want to sound like a sunshine pumper but our gals our a lot better than they have been in a while. I encourage you to go see them play this season. Coach Jobson is not going to accept anything less than success. Her track record is clear on this point.
