I remember this happening at another vbulletin site. Two thigns that could be occurring are that you are "backing out" of the thread i.e. you hit the backspace rather than actively clicking out of the thread. The other thing could be that you are trying to clear the forum as read from the thread and it gets excluded. I've seen both happen.

If you aren't doing either of those then we might have a programming glitch.
