Behind a stifling defense and balanced scoring, the Baylor Lady Bears defeated the defending national champion, the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds, 101-44, in the school's War Memorial Gym on Sunday evening. The victory gave Baylor a sweep of two of Canada's top programs. The Lady Bears defeated Simon Fraser on Saturday, 86-67.

Rachel Allison, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Very hot none the less. That's more like the score we should win by on first couple of games.

She spoke at the Baylor Bear Foundation Sponsor Drive this year, and also came across as a well polished speaker. It will be exciting to watch her on the court in the next couple years, and I hope she gets the chance to go deep into the tournament. I am not sure if she is interested in the WNBA, but there might be a shot for her.

We will really need Rachel to step up this year for us. She did a good job for us last year. She might have a shot at the WNBA but she will have to work really hard. Doesn't exactly have given talent like Sophia. I'm hoping we can go to Sweet 16 this year in the tourney.

The teams success this year depends heavily on Rachel and her senior leadership. Her overwhelming hustle tends to motivate her teammates and provide a spark in order to pull out a win. A perfect example of this is MJ's all out effort last season. Along with Jhaz, Rachel will be the go to player down the stretch.

As far as the WNBA goes, Rachel will prolly have to improve even more on her outside shot and be able to adjust to a different position.

We'll need Player to get back to 80% of her ability to make a deep run. Field, Palmer, and Condrey are doing really well for the freshmen. Then 2009-10 is going to be special.

I'm hearing that Palmer and particularly Field are slow afoot. Do we have any eyewitnesses that can comment on that?

Haven't heard it. Field ran the 100, 200, and 400 in HS while also throwing the shot and discus.

What was her time in the 100? And, can you provide her weight? I don't know why Title IX doesn't insist on that.

I havent been around to visit practice yet this year. I can ask a few people who have. I will say that you shouldnt expect much from "sleeper" recruits.

If Bernice Mosby can't cut it in the WNBA, Rachel Allison doesn't stand a prayer.

Since the league's draft extended to three rounds last year (why I have no idea other than generating a little more pub), she might get chosen very late like Tisdale.

I doubt Allison has given much thought to professional basketball at any level. Other career options probably offer her more lucrative packages.

PS - Wacoso, don't ever judge an athlete by their performance in TAPPS track. The talent level doesn't match Class 2A. Check out the state meet in Waco sometime. Watching the hurdles is akin to viewing demolition derby.

I agree on the TAPPS track reference, but if she wins it, she's not slower than molasses. She'll be a lot like Allison in her determination, but she shoots better from outside.

Field is a good athlete. However, I've seen her run, and she is slow especially in her start.

She actually ran on the relay teams for Marble Falls Faith Christian (MFFC) and not the open events.

MFFC won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays at the TAPPS state meet with times of 52.81 seconds and 1:51.39. At the UIL state meet, the winning times in those Class A events were 49.59 and 1:46.26. The slowest A times were 51.10 and 1:51.67. In 5A, winners clocked 45.74 and 1:37.17.

Field also captured golds in the discus (143-4) and shot put (39-9.5). Class A winners threw 131-0 and 41-7.25. Class 5A gold medalists tossed 154-6 and 46-5.25.

I don't expect her to ever match Rachel Allison's numbers at Baylor.

She plays hard is all I'll say in her play vs Allison. She doesn't have the jumping ability, but she is mighty physical. She also can shoot from 23'. I've seen that in person.
