Get outta the way. It's coming our way.
There's an extra bed in Columbia if your family needs it. Just be safe. Everyone on here knows how to get ahold of me if you need anything.

Donnie, thanks.
Hanna will be a minimal Cat 1 if she's a hurricane at all. The sailboat is battened down and she'll be fine. We've been through so many of these that we're ready. I'll gas the cars today and I've got to stop by the liquor store.
The one I'm wary of is Ike. It's already a Cat 4 and on that familiar course that brings these storms to the SE coast. For anything bigger than a Cat 2 we bugout to Augusta.

Does Hootie let you play a round for free if you are a hurricane survivor?

Hootie's not there anymore. Still a member though.

Ok maybe its because I am in Waco and don't get hit by hurricanes but since Katrina I have thought the media "wants" each hurricane/TD to be horrible. I mean the last two years experts have said it would be a bad season and nothing happened. Even when we did and now during this season it seems the spend 30 minutes talking about possible paths of storms that are 5 days away making it seem like it is a category 8 hurricane that is coming and it is still nothing more than a TS or TD.
I am not trying to make light of hurricanes (I do realize many people have lost their lives and are still without power in some areas) but just feel like the media is overhyping it.

There's a ton of money sitting on our coast. It just helps people get ready. I doubt many of them take it very lite. It might be for nothing in the end, but better safe than sorry.

It is a better safe than sorry, but the media does overhype the issue. Eduard that was coming to us two weeks ago didn't do anything but rain like a normal storm with some wind. Gustav didn't put a drop on us, but 50% of the rooms in Galveston were empty due to cancellations because Houston TV was down here 10 days before arrival. The funniest is to watch them tape on Seawall holding their hands on their hats with no wind blowing.

Our Governor is on TV today telling everyone to get ready, while he's on the steps to his house on Isle Of Palms. Maybe he's getting ready? :)

A buddy is from Houma. He said most of the people that have lived there most of their lives don't go anywhere unless its a 5. He said his uncle drives his shrimp boat up the canal where they have telephone poles in the water to tie off to. Then they just wait it out.
His dad was in Houma when Gustav blew through. No real damage except for a few tree limbs. They put a metal roof on last time he lost his, which has lasted through several hurricanes including Katrina.

I agree it is better safe than sorry and am not trying to make lite of the situation just wondering if anyone else thought they were going over the top with their coverage. and now its nice to know that some of you agree.

Mike Seidel from The Weather Channel is at Wrightsville Beach. There's not been a Jim Cantore sighting to this point.
I was just at Wal-mart and it's a zoo. The water, peanut butter, beer, and battery isles look like it's a war zone.
The media is the media. They will hype any story any way they can for ratings. The images of those folks at the Superdome are fresh enough that people take the hype seriously. If it makes folks prepare in advance for these storms, then maybe we take the bad with the good.

Jim Cantore gets near and katy bar the door.
We had a good laugh from our neighbor on Eduard. He has a couple marquis on his restaurants and the main one had this:
Eduard Category 1
Media Category 5

and let me say I've got my eye on Ike. He seems pretty upset with the sunny beaches.

Agreed. Ike is in that slot that may bring him right up my driveway.
