"Since I was not given a fair chance to come in and compete for a job, I would rather move on and win in other areas of life."
-Culpepper
lol. This guy has a couple of great seasons, then is retiring a few years later. Pretty interesting.

If those areas are competitive eating, he's got a chance to win.

Hey players that never even play retire. The one that comes to mind is Eric Crouch. He retired after spending a year or two on practice squads but never playing a down.

Retire sounds so much better than quit.

Wish I could have been so lucky.

For the love of pete, David "Sack Me" Carr is on an NFL roster. Why in the world wouldn't a team look at Culpepper?
Is his knee really wrecked and he's done? Or is he such a jerk no GM wants him in the clubhouse?

that's what you get when you hire an agent. most of them are A holes, but for the most part they know what they're doing

carr is younger so can be signed for longer and at a lower cost than Culpepper and has no injury questionmark. add those three together and he seems like a better backup. Just my guess though

It sounds like he mainly retired cuz he did not want to compete to be the starting qb. Come on man......after an injury most of the time you have to start from the bottom. His ego prolly prevented him from being picked up by teams like Kansas City, Miami, Atlanta, Baltimore, and San Fran.

I think the best position in the NFL is a veteran that is a 3rd String QB.... collect that veteran's minimum all day long.

agreed I would take a couple hundred thousand dollars to hold a clipboard and lead the practice squad while knowing I can't get hit. The league minimum for a rookie is $285,000 and goes up each year to a maximum of 11 years and $820,000. Not a bad gig at all
